“365 Boxes:” Day 13

Do I need more office supplies? Probably not. But they keep coming.

Box 13: Friday, Jan. 13, 2023

CONTENTS: File folders. Hanging file folders, and a variety of manila folders that were the standard until scientists created the hanging file folder in the Office Max Innovations Lab. However, there’s a twist: After I retrieve this box from the garage, the household Master Recycler tells me that I’m digging around in an area of the garage where she is storing material she intends to give away. This was not previously clear to me. Here’s a piece of advice to anyone considering their own “365 Boxes” project: Ask the other members of the household if they, too, have set up staging areas for materials they intend to give away. But this begs another question, which I decline to immediately ask: If this is case, why is the box still here?

DISPOSITION: It turns out that Corvallis has a number of locations that (sometimes) accept office supplies such as these. These are headed to one of those locations. This is a good time for me to call your attention to the online guide to reuse in Corvallis, a project of the Corvallis Sustainability Coalition’s Waste Prevention Action Team. (Full disclosure: The household’s Master Recycler has had a role in this project for years.) In this case, it’s probably a good idea to phone ahead to make sure a location listed on the site still is taking items such as office supplies. But all of these folders will be donated — well, I might grab a handful of them, just in case I experience a sudden upsurge in material that I need to, you know, file. (Insert your own joke here about Joe Biden and classified material.)

If you’re coming late to the whole “365 Boxes” project, here’s the blog post that got it all rolling.
