“365 Boxes:” Day 20

by | Jan 21, 2023 | "365 Boxes" | 1 comment

I sense that I’m building up to a big box for the weekend, something that will make a real dent in the garage. But, in the meantime, I’m just treading water — or boxes, in this case. Today’s box is a case in point:

Box 20: Friday, Jan. 20, 2023

CONTENTS: Old neckties. Some of them are thread-worn. All of them are too wide. And, truth be told, over the past 12 months, I’ve worn a tie maybe four times. My current supply of skinnier ties would appear to be sufficient to cover that demand. But I used to enjoy wearing ties on a daily basis — they offered a nice, and sometimes whimsical, splash of color. So I hate to just toss these.

DISPOSITION: Even sober-minded publications such as The New York Times have weighed in on the burning question of what to do with unused ties. And a cursory search on the internet turns up dozens (and, in some cases, hundreds) of clever suggestions for reusing ties. But let’s face it — I’m not going to do even one of them. However, I am prepared to give them away to anyone who wants them, so here’s a temporary solution: I’m moving this box from the garage to what the great comedians Bob and Ray might have termed my overstocked clothes closet. This temporary change of venue ensures that I’ll be able to quickly locate the box when you contact me — but don’t delay.

  1. Ties? Ties?…we don’t need no stinking Ties…I was trying to remember the last time I wore a tie, and I honestly cannot..of course you know I was never a very formal type..
