“365 Boxes:” Day 41

by | Feb 10, 2023 | "365 Boxes"

Today’s box posts another existential question: Did I ever subscribe to so many magazines that I needed all these magazine holders?

Box 41: Friday, Feb. 10, 2023

CONTENTS: The answer is, apparently, yes. Nowadays, the only print publications to which I subscribe are The Atlantic, the Wallowa County Chieftain (it’s a long story) and dozens of catalogs. It was different not so long ago, with subscriptions to magazines like Entertainment Weekly and The New Republic and various journalism reviews. Some of those publications no longer appear in print, and the same is true of most of my subscriptions, which mainly are online. That cuts down on the clutter. Still, call me a little old-fashioned, but having the new edition of The Atlantic show up in my mailbox feels a bit more special than when The Atlantic’s daily email pops into my inbox.

DISPOSITION: All of these magazine holders will be donated, except for one: I need some place to store all these copies of the Chieftain.

A BONUS: This was a surprisingly big box — much bigger than the magazine racks it held — so its removal is a bigger win than you might think. At least this is what I’m telling myself tonight.
