“365 Boxes:” Day 48

by | Feb 17, 2023 | "365 Boxes" | 3 comments

The assault on the north end of the Great Wall of Clutter continues, and that means I’ll be seeing many more boxes like this over the next few days. Some “365 Boxes” readers have suggested that what I really need is more bookshelves, and I think they may have a point.

Box 48: Friday, Feb. 17, 2023

CONTENTS: More books, a curious assortment of novels and textbooks from the 1970s and early 1980s. There’s a memoir by Abbie Hoffman, a book about Groucho Marx, a paperback copy of “Dune” and so forth. I wonder how that book “Twentieth Century Russia” turned out. I hear there was a twist ending.

DISPOSITION: Some of these books will find their way to the Little Free Library over the next few weeks. Most will be donated to the library and could show up at one of the Friends of the Library’s Big Book Sales. Some of the older textbooks, of course, are not reusable and must be recycled — but I’ll have to remove the bindings from the hardbound books. Here’s a guide on how to do that. When the weather gets nicer, let’s all get together for an unbinding party. I’ll provide the snacks; you bring your own Exacto knives.

  1. OSU library has archivists who sometimes have an interest in old academic books.

    • I know some of those archivists. I will inquire before I pull out the Exacto blades. Thanks for the tip, Pam.

  2. Bookshelves will allow you to see what you have. Also, you can let them sit for awhile. If you find no one is reading them, then find another home for them. You might find some books that you enjoy to reread, I do.
