“365 Boxes:” Day 26

by | Jan 26, 2023 | "365 Boxes"

Today’s box features stuff from the older daughter, including a well-made pillow in the shape of a mustache. It’s probably best that you don’t ask too many questions.

Box 26: Thursday, Jan. 26

CONTENTS: Today’s box contains bits and pieces from the older daughter’s life in Missoula, Eugene and Corvallis — before she departed for New York City and, now, Los Angeles. So it contains framed photos she took, other photos that show the daughter with a particularly spicy calico cat who deigned to live with us for years, a doll she made during her studies at the University of Oregon, sales materials from her stint as a jewelry saleswoman, letters and cards she received over the years and what appears to be every ribbon she won from the Western Montana Fair in Missoula. Oh, and that mustache pillow.

DISPOSITION: The older daughter isn’t particularly sentimental, but that’s not true of her parents. Of course, we’ll save the photos of her and the cat. We’ll donate some of the other frames, which are in good shape. My spouse will save some of the cards and ribbons for scrapbooks she eventually hopes to make for both daughters — I know that this runs counter to the whole idea behind “365 Boxes,” but what are you going to do, right? I’ll see if the jewelry store where she worked is interested in that binder with “The Diamond Course” — after all, diamonds are forever. That mustache pillow? It could be yours.
